It’s the evening after a major dinner party hosted by the Vanderbilts, in which the upcoming presidential election was discussed (historical or using modern candidates). The servants have just finished their work, and are gathered for their meal in the servants’ dining room afterwards. What political viewpoints were discussed. How do each of the servants feel about the political climate, and how will they vote? Taking on the role of one of the servants, write a letter to a relative recounting the evening and explaining who you will vote for.
Choose an individual from the Vanderbilt staff. Imagine the biography for this person. Where have you come from? What do you miss about home? How do you feel about employment with the Vanderbilts? What challenges do you still face, and how can you overcome them?
Poetry - Choose an object or space in the Vanderbilt garden that is particularly inspiring. Describe and let your imagination take flight as you explore your surroundings in verse. Pay particular attention to description and the information provided by your sense.
